Music High School of the Regensburger Domspatzen
Safety Film to Prevent Injuries in a Music High School

Problem:
Safeguarding the metal glass elements in the cafeteria area and in the mezzanine floor according to legal requirements.
Solution:
Bruxsafol safety film 4011
Amount of Film:
approx. 46 m2
Benefits:
Cost effective safeguarding of glass surfaces without optical changes to the facade.
The building for school, boarding school and choir was founded over 50 years ago. With a total of 490 students, the music school with attached boarding school had reached its maximum capacity and extensive renovations, modernizations and extensions to the building were necessary.
Accident prevention measures
Among other things, a part of the building with a sitting hall as well as the school administration offices were enlarged. The aspect of safety in particular, played a key role for Christoph Beckers, the responsible architect from the Bauer & Götz architectural firm in Regensburg. He chose the glass and shatter protection films from Bruxsafol Folien GmbH specifically to protect the metal-glass elements in the break area and mezzanine floor. The experienced builder was aware of the legal requirements, particularly for schools and kindergartens, but always had his own responsibility clearly in mind. “The decisive factor for us was the quality of the film and its protective effect in combination with glass,” explains Beckers. Glass covered with the crystal-clear Bruxsafol safety film type 4011 to protect glass surfaces from splintering complies with the guidelines of EN 12600 and is considered an accident prevention measure. This gives normal glass or non-shatterproof glass in combination with safety films the same breakage properties as laminated safety glass (VSG).
Visually no difference
Background: Safety glass is tested according to DIN EN 12600 “Glass in construction – Pendulum impact test – Method for impact testing and classification of flat glass”. In this case, a 50 kg impact body is dropped from a height of at least 190 millimeters against the glazing to be tested. And the costs? “I already knew the advantages of UV protection films from previous construction projects,” explains Beckers, “and so from the start we preferred Bruxsafol safety films to expensive safety glass. Glasses coated with the films not only have the same effect as the comparably expensive safety films, but because they are crystal clear, there is no visual difference to pure glass facades.” In addition, films can be removed from the glass surfaces without leaving any residue and without any problems.
Versatile
Thanks to the high-quality UV absorbers integrated in the adhesive system, the product not only offers protection against splintering, but also rejection of UV rays and long-term durability. When using high-end films, professional bonding is just as important as extensive advice and planning. “You should always consider all safety risks in advance and think preventively,” says Christoph Beckers. “Every retrofit is expensive and involves a lot of work.” And so security specialists from various trades were at the table beforehand when it came to deciding on the individual security solutions.
