Sun shading for bright attics
Enjoy bright rooms without excessive heating – foiled by ogyprint
Problem:
Strong heating of a roof apartment due to over-ridge glazing and permanent solar radiation.
Solution:
BRUXSAFOL AX Plus 20 sun protection film
Achieved performance:
Noticeable heat protection with continued bright, friendly living spaces
Penthouses have their very own character: lots of light, open rooms and a special feeling of living. Over-ridge glazing enhances this effect, as daylight enters the room from above and makes the apartment appear particularly bright and open. At the same time, however, this design also poses a challenge: when the sun shines in during the days, the rooms can heat up considerably.
This was exactly the case in this private home. The penthouse was bright and friendly – but quickly became too warm in summer. Although air conditioning can provide a short-term remedy, it consumes electricity on a permanent basis and causes running costs.
A solution was therefore required that would tackle the cause directly: the solar radiation through the glass surfaces.
The company ogyprint wrapped the glazing with BRUXSAFOL AX Plus 20. The solar control film significantly reduces the heat input and thus helps to noticeably reduce the heating of the penthouse. At the same time, the bright character of the rooms is retained.
The BRUXSAFOL AX Plus 20 used has also received an award from Stiftung Warentest: In a test of solar control films for buildings, AX Plus 20 received the top score of 2.2 in the “highly reflective” category.
Stiftung Warentest recommends highly reflective films as an effective solution against summer heat, especially for attic rooms.
In the case of penthouses, large glass surfaces and over-ridge glazing, it is clear how useful retrofit foiling can be: It increases living comfort, noticeably reduces heat and offers an efficient solution without major structural work.
