Invisible Protection for Friedrichsburg

BRUXSAFOL sun protection film protects the historic ballroom from UV radiation and heat gain

Problem:
Harmful UV radiation and heat gain through the windows of the historic ballroom.

Solution:
BRUXSAFOL XH 63 Solar Control Film

Amount of film laid:
approx. 20 m2

Results achieved:
High UV and heat protection with virtually unchanged appearance and a continued bright, airy feel to the room.

Friedrichsburg is one of the unique architectural gems of the Königstein Fortress in Saxon Switzerland. The building was originally constructed in 1589 as a watchtower and flanking tower. Even back then, there was a ballroom on the upper floor. In 1731, it was converted into a small Baroque pleasure palace.

Today, the historic, light-filled hall is used, among other things, for civil weddings.

The windows, which are arranged all around the room, allow a great deal of sunlight to enter the hall. This causes the room to heat up and can, over time, damage historic surfaces and the valuable interior furnishings.

What was needed, therefore, was a sun protection solution that would provide effective protection while being as unobtrusive as possible. Spezialfolienbau Machold applied BRUXSAFOL XH 63 sun protection film to the glazing.

This exceptionally light-colored, selectively tinted film blocks more than 99 percent of UV radiation while also reducing heat gain. It has only a slight mirror effect and barely alters the color of the incoming daylight.

This makes the film particularly well-suited for a historic building like this one: The ballroom remains bright and open, while the rooms and their furnishings are reliably protected from harmful UV radiation and excessive heat gain.
